Thinks I Aspire To Do, But Have Never Actually Done

 Have you ever had a bunch of things you would like to do, but you never really get around to? Join the band wagon. This here, sister, is one thing I struggle with. I make all these resolutions to change, which never actually come to be a reality in my life. Why? Because I can't change on my own. I guess this is something I've been realizing lately, ya know? I am so incompetent of doing anything good in my life, then I get discouraged, depressed--call it what you like--instead of turning to the One who can actually CHANGE me. I'm learning that changing happens not when I hold onto my struggles, and try in vain to mold myself, but when I hand my struggles over to God, and cry out "HELP...!"

 

I seem to learn this lesson over and over, and over, and will continue to be taught this for the rest of my life! I still am struggling, falling...failing. Thanks be to Jesus, who is still there, picking me up, and taking me by the hand!

 

Anyway, here is a list of thing I would eventually like to do (They aren't all serious. Some are actually quite stupid, but I still want to do them sometime in my life... I guess you could call this a kind of bucket list. Pictures are from Pinterest (you know, that website you go on for hours with all those cool ideas, that you never get around to doing!) * insert a smiley emoticon, because I can't figure out how to do that, and don't want to take the time to figure it out*

 

 Please note, these are not in any sort of order, just whatever I feel like doing at the moment.

-Go on an Adventure

I'm terrified of heights, despise spiders, and have an fear of mice, and insects...etc. Yup, I'm a city slicker. I guess the kind of adventure I have in mind is a road trip, or camping trip. Maybe through some hiking in the mix, and I'd be pumped! I guess you could say I'm kind of like a version of Bilbo Baggins (although not half as brave, witty, or really any of his characteristics except the cowardly part). But I would like to go on a slightly dangerous, but mostly safe adventure. (Is that even a thing?)

-Drink Coffee Black...and Enjoy it.


I think coffee is an acquired taste, thus, I have resolved (not really) to start drinking it more with less added sugar/milk. I had a cup today, and didn't add any sugar, and *drumroll* enjoyed it. It's working you guys!

-Be A Hermit For a Week.

Before you get freaked out, let me explain! I think it would be fun to go to the mountains and find a cozy cabin to spend the week in alone. I like being alone sometimes to think, and maybe to just be there, out of the hubbub and stress of normal, everyday life would be really refreshing. Pack a few books, Bible, and a couple movies...and walah! Dream land! =) Maybe not alone...that would be kind of scary. Maybe bring a person, and have them close by... can you tell I'm not very adventurous?

- Keep My Room Clean on a Regular Basis...


Ya'll, I'm a messy person who likes to be organized. (Why did I write Ya'll? I'm not Southern! Oh dear. That was my natural instinct...scary. No offense to Southern people.) It drives me crazy sometimes (the room, not writing like I'm Southern!) I need to get into the habit of cleaning up after myself, 'cause it's not gonna clean itself up on it's own!

#5 Get into the Habit of Praying Continuously


This is an area I still struggle with. I get so distracted that I often forget to pray of even ask Him for help. Other times when I pray, I start, and then I get distracted---squirrel---! Have you ever felt that way? Anyway, this is definitely something I aspire to do!

A Poem of Grace

Hey Ya'll! I've kind of stopped writing poems, but I had an idea for one, and I figured that since I haven't posted in a while, I might as well share it! It's definitely in need of some heavy duty editing, =) but I thought I'd share it anyway. Feeling like I have to measure up (to God's expectations, mine, and of course other people!) is something I definitely struggle with, and hopefully this poem will remind you (and me!) that our worth and identity is found solely in Jesus! Standing at the measuring stick

The virgin gave birth

Procrastination! Ekk!

Update! On this blog I'll be rotating every other week between writing poems, and also, attempting the "take a picture a day" challenge. I'll post one week's worth of photo's one week and a poem the next!

So I said I'm writing a poem a week because I want to improve. It's late because I have procrastinated on writing it and doing school (ahem, *cough cough*) Thus, I am commemorating this poem to my lifelong friend. Procrastination: Thanks for the memories of all-nighters, sleep deprivation, and despair of stressing.

Procrastination:

The worst of enemies, best of friends
Whispers soothing lies
“Do it later! You know you can!”

 

Oh how I loathe his company
When time is ticking out
My stress brewing like coffee
While I sit there, stressing out!

 He’s a very loyal friend…

Until a deadline hits
Then he flees my company
And tells me “just deal with it.”

 

So today I’m going to tell him.
It’s time to say goodbye
But wait…how will I go on?
When he’s such a part of my life?

 

Dear Procrastination
Just leave my life! Goodbye.
Goodbye old foe of sleep!
You thought you were so sly!

 

But wait…I hear a noise.
I thought I was alone!
Procrastination’s angry for revenge
And has sent over his cousin—Postpone!

Another Poem :)

Finally, I got around to writing another poem. I've decided I'm going to try to write a poem a week, because it's something I really enjoy and would like to get better at. Hopefully I won't bore you all!   Next week I'll write a funny one ;)

 

The storm swelled.

Thunder cracking, vibrating the land.

The sky darkened.

The wrath of God--his mighty hand.

 

Fulfilled the prophecies of old

To ransom the captured soul

By sending His precious Son

To bear the sin of the world.

 

Angles mourned,

Grieving the distress of their Maker.

Hands extended,

Creator nailed to His creation.

 

Beads of sweat pouring down

Searing cries of anguish

All for those who had the pride

To murder the God of Heaven

 

How can it be?

The rebel now claims

The right to be cleansed

And forgiven from shame?

Why did he come?

To be murdered, disgraced

And mocked by the ones

He came to save?

 

Water, blood.

A spear in His side

The King of Heaven

Is paying the price of my pride.

 

The promised One,

Son of the most-high God

Lowered into a hopeless grave

Buried under the sod

 

Oh for the tears of sorrow

Of those who loved Him most

Fleeing now in terror

Doubting the slightest hope.

 

Yet the grave had not power

Death not control

To bind the King of Heaven

Can You redeem a life so broken?

When the well runs dry and days are gray,

when we are captured, dragged away,

when light is blocked out of the sky

Will You take compassion at our plight?

 

Can You free a captive so enslaved?

Can You rescue sinners from the grave,

and strip away the masks that hide

the frightful truth—the shame that binds?

 

Yes when hope seemed lost,

when skies seemed gray,

did You even spare

Your son that day?

 

When He was sent down to our plight,

We so blind that we despised?

 And when we nailed Him to the tree

Did you look ahead to us and see

 

Our shameful, broken, hardened lives

Set on His shoulders—a searing sight

Did you see the sin that weighs me down?

And see the day that I’d be found?

I scream, you scream...ice cream!

Hello there!
This week, I've been doing some more experimenting in the kitchen (more like tasting, but hey, everything counts!) and I adapted a recipe I found off the internet. Hey, it's almost summer, and I know I love ice cream. I decided to make a "healthier version" of this scrumptious treat!

It was (I just ate it while downloading the pictures=) really good! I guess I should name it? How about Berry Delight? No, that sound kind of corny. Hmm...I'll have to think about it. =) Since it was a mix of berries, I think I'll go with Blue Srasberry Ripple. I like original=)...although corny original defeats the purpose...kind of. Never mind! 

Oh well, I had fun making it anyway! 

Here's a rough estimate of what I put it: (I never measure exactly, probably the culprit of all my cooking disasters.) 

Step 1:

1 cup of frozen berries--any kind! Blue, raspberry, black berry, or  strawberry!

1 tbs honey

1 1/2 teaspoons lime juice

Roughly a tbs of milk

A squirt of vanilla 

Step 2:

Blend 'till smooth and creamy in a food processor (about five minutes). 

Step 3:

Eat with joy! (like in those chocolate commercials on TV, except not as weirdly!) 

Another exciting announcement! Our cat had kittens! Yeah!

I think they're really cute! This was at a few days old... they've since opened their eyes and have gotten a lot cuter! Hannah says they aren't cute! The audacity! I would argue to differ!

Photo Editing: Things I've Learned

The world of photography has been increasing in popularity and many are enjoying the leaps in technology that it's taken in the last couple of years...including me! Before I start,  I'll say this in the beginning: I am no expert! Just to make sure you know that. Here are some trial and error things I have learned from editing photo's. By the way, I use a program called Picasa. It's really the only program I've ever used, so I don't have a whole lot of experience with other software. I previously used the Window's Photo Editor, and then my dad downloaded picasa for me (I'm pretty sure it's a free program you can download).

The biggest thing I've learned, is: DO NOT OVER EDIT!
Okay, let me explain. The first time I found an editing program on my computer, I was super excited. I experimented with all sorts of different lighting and features. But because of lack of experience, I ended up ruining most of my photo's. I added too many shadows, and made the pictures overly bright with highlights, making the lighting look too vibrant and almost blinding.
 My experience with photography is that most people want their photographs to look professional. When I say "do not over edit" I mean that you want to enhance the lighting and effects without letting them "take away" from the beauty of the photo. Make the lighting look natural.
For example, here are two pictures. One is edited A LOT, while the other is edited to enhance. Can you guess which one is which?

Personally, I like #2 better than #1. It's less blinding =). Maybe the example is a bit exaggerated, but hopefully you understand my point!

Lesson #2
Always, Always, Always, SAVE THE PICTURE BEFORE YOU EDIT IT!
This is something I've had to learn the hard way. Many a time, I've edited a photo and ruined it because I didn't make a copy of the original before I started "experimenting".

Lesson #3
Use crop! It's a great help. Although I don't suggest it as your main plan of action when taking pictures (meaning try to get a unique perspective on the item your photographing in the first place instead of just cropping it later...something I am still learning) I do think it's a great tool. Cropping helps let you get rid of excess picture space and directs the focus back to the main subject. For example, here is a picture I took:

There is lots of "excess space" in the picture.

So you can use crop to edit the picture and bring the main focus back to the flower AND make the perspective a little more interesting! I know on Picasa, and other editing programs, sometimes suggest different ways to crop the picture! Here's how I cropped it:

Lesson #4
Just have fun. Don't compare the pictures you take with the ones your friends or other photographers take, because that only discourages you! (I know!) Photography is all about capturing the moment and God's beautiful creation. Editing is another fun way to bring in the color your camera didn't capture! (or add color that wasn't there too!) Don't be afraid to experiment!

This week: an overview of the highlights

After about 20 minutes of wasting time on the internet (it wasn't really wasting, just postponing (literally!) this post) I am finally sitting down to write a semi-organized couple paragraphs about my life lately. Well, starting off, you had better put your thinking caps on, because you'll probably will have a hard time following my thinking (because, yes! What in the world could I post about that wouldn't be random, you might ask yourselves!). So anyway, to start off, I've actually had a good week. I'm serious. It hasn't been crazy of stressful (praise the Lord!) and I've actually had time to read! Yes! *stands up and does an incredibly clumsy and what many might call lame dance*
Savanna loaned me a book, and so far, I'm enjoying it! It's called captives by Jill Williamson.

Another thing I am excited about, is I think our cat, Midnight, is pregnant. I'm almost positive (don't tell Hannah that. She is very skeptical of my abilities in diagnosing cats, due to some mistaken diagnosis's!=) (I don't even know if that is a word! This will be her first litter, so the kittens probably won't survive. I'm guessing that Midnight is due in about two weeks, although I could be way off.  =)

Hannah's Birthday was on the 10th (Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!) and I made her go on a treasure hunt to find her gift. *giggles with a hint of mischief* It was really quite hilarious watching her run around the house (I spaced the locations really far apart!=) hehe! Oh well, I made up for it. I gave her a frozen music book to play on the piano. I hope she liked it. Here are some of the clues I came up with. I had fun!

So anyway, I had fun with it. =)


Hannah has been watching Lord of the Rings with me! Finally! Guess what she said too? She told me she liked them okay! Yes!!!! I was excited. We watched half of The Two Towers last night. Finally I'll have someone to watch them with me!

Spring is here!?!?!?!

Hello!
This week, I'm teaching a missionary story in the good news club Hannah, Kirk, Mrs. Weddle and I are teaching out at Riley. Prayers would be appreciated! It's been a really fun club to teach. The kids are really attentive and ask really great questions!
     I can't believe it's already April 9th! Spring IS here! Yippee! I went out and picked some of our daffodils yesterday! (okay, it made a pretty wimpy bouquet because they were the only flowers out, but, hey, they're cheerful!) I love flowers! I'm so glad it's spring. I was getting sick of winter;)
    Speaking of spring, we officially celebrated Hannah's birthday yesterday (since we'll be busy on her actual birthday tomorrow). I got her a pair of Nike shorts (they're light pink with a periwinkle and white stripe!) and my parents also got her pink shorts (hot pink) and a matching jacket. They're really cute. I think I'll have to bribe her to let me wear them (either that, or guilt her into it...just kidding!)
So anyway, that's mostly the extent or the exciting extent of my week....Oh yeah....I get to take the ACT on Saturday. Joy.  It's just for practice, but I'm still kind of nervous. Oh well, at least it isn't for "real" since I'm only a sophomore this year.
    I haven't gotten a whole lot of time to work on my room this week... I have a cork board and a white board/magnetic board that I want to hang up, but my dad wants to hang it "right". Plus, he doesn't want me using his tools (yeah, the thought of me with power tools is a little unsettling) because it seems like they always go missing after a project. Hee hee:) *guilty smile*
I'd better get going...

Hello!

Hey there! This week has been a different sort of week! First off, Civics/Economics class ended last week, and hence, I don't have to go anywhere today (I have more time to finish school! Yeah!). Another thing about this week that's been out of the ordinary, is this Saturday, we burnt our land! Now it looks all black and kind of depressing, but in a couple of weeks, (since we burnt off all the dead grass) it will be green, and super pretty!

I've also been working on my room and that's been really fun for me. I'm not very good at figuring out what works, and what doesn't, (just ask anyone in my family! I've been coming up with some pretty hideous stuff! =) but it's fun for me to try. I bought a white board/ magnetic board at hobby lobby yesterday, but I have to wait for my dad to hang it for me. For me, patience is not a virtue that comes naturally! Well, as I was saying, I've been working on putting my room together! It's still kind of a wreck (from me pulling stuff out, rearranging furniture etc=) but here are some pictures of my bed in process! I moved it to try to maximize space!

I want to get some throw pillows that pull together the blue walls, and the corral sheets. And in case you're thinking "wow, her room isn't as bad as she says" you should see the other half! I have piles and piles of stuff that I shoved out of the way! I had to spend about 20 minutes cleaning up the small area that you see! So, on that note, I'd better go start cleaning up! Hey everybody, I hope you're having a great week! My week has been pretty crazy (or so it seems) between finishing due assignments, preparing for a five day club etc, etc, etc=) I taught the bible lesson on Jephthah, (I'd never heard that story before!) and Hannah helped out with it. She dressed up as him (beard, bible costume and all!) and I get to interview her!  (She is so funny!=)

This week, I decided to change my room theme (from the accent color gray/chevron) and make the accent color a peachy-coral! I got sheets, and rearranged my room, and have been coming up with some fun ideas!

I also found some fun fabrics at Joanne Fabrics, so I'm pretty excited. One of them is lacy and white, and the other is a kind of burlap. I found the fabric on sale, and only paid 12.00! Yeah for sales!

 I am excited! Since I rearranged my room this Saturday, I have some more ideas (yes, I know, I know) although I haven't exactly finished all my other "in progress projects":)

Another Random Post....=)

Hello! I hope you all have had an amazing week! Wow. I can't believe it's spring break! (well, in like 12 hours) I'm excited. I'll have to finish up some homework before I'm officially off, but I am excited!
As many of you know (probably all of you know!=) I've been in the process of re-decorating my room (sooo much fun!!!!!!). Here is my newest completed project: A chalkboard wall! I found white chalkboard paint too!!!!!

My goal for this wall, since it's right across from my bed, is to make it a quote wall (using magnetic paint or a cork board./verse of the day/ (chalkboard) calender/planning wall. We'll see how that turns out! I got the idea from a magazine!

Another thing I'm excited about is the father daughter banquet tomorrow! I got my dress from good will, and I love it! (whenever I find a good deal, I get excited!)

What is the last movie you saw that made you cry?  The Kid! It's SUCH a good movie!

What's your favorite book of the Bible? Romans and Philippians...I also think Matthew and First John are also pretty cool though. =)

If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Probably where I live now! If I could move all my friends and everything I love with me, I'd live in Alaska for 2 months of the year, New Zealand for 5, and the Bahama's for the rest!

If you could go anywhere in the WORLD, where would you go? Definitely Paris, New Zealand, and Rome!

Favorite foods? Pizza, potatoes, watermelon,  and icecream!

Are there any foods that you don't like? Wow. Should I give this list alphabetically?  I HATE carrots! I also don't like green beans, lettuce, broccoli, peanuts and anything fishy! (I'm a really picky eater!)

What do you like to do with your spare time? I like to do anything crafty or creative! I love reading when I can find a good book, and I like to spend time outside when the weather is nice!

Facts that might surprise other people? I LOVE umbrella's. They're just so adorable!  I'm terrified of heights, and if I ever got a job, I would NEVER want to work in an office!

What is your favorite character quote? "Oh! Don't be a porcupine in a balloon shop!"- I don't remember the book's name! It was written by David Lewis though!

Hello there again! This week has been kind of strange. One day: sunny and 70 degrees, then next, sunny and 60, and then, what do ya know? Snow!  Thankfully it's stopped, and melting which is a very good sign! Man, am I ready for spring! Even though it snowed earlier today, guess what I found growing today? See for yourself!

Its growing! Green, finally! Although I love winter, I'm just about ready for it to be over! On that note, it's been a pretty good week. Well, excluding dissections...okay, they weren't that bad. I would have enjoyed them, but the stench really got to me. I was about ready to puke! Oh, so gross!=)

 Anyway, Some of this weeks highlights were thrift store shopping. I had a great find! I found this cute gray dress that  is really versatile... I was so excited!

Also, I found a sheet that I'm going to use as materiel for throw pillows in my room! It was only $1.50 too! 

It's been a great week overall! I'm so excited that it's been warmer this week! Spring is just around the corner!

Snow Sorbet!

This week, I had absolutely no idea what to blog about...so I decided to bake...(ahem, maybe "make" would be a better word choice) something before the snow melts...snow cream! (I've never tried it, but I've seen it on pinterest. So anyway, here's what was in it:

2 cups snow (it should have been freshly fallen snow, but unfortunately it wasn't)
1 tbs. sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 drops vanilla extract

Directions: Combine sugar, milk and vanilla. Drizzle over the freshly gathered snow and mix until even. If the proportions are off, you can keep adding snow and milk until the consistency seems right.

Surprisingly, it was better than I thought it would be.

After experimenting with that, I thought it would be fun to experiment and make up my own recipe.=) Mmmm. Citrus sounds wonderful, doesn't it? After some experimenting, I came up with this recipe.

Snow Sorbet

Time: 20 minutes                                                                       Serves two people

1 tbs. orange juice concentrate

2 drops lemon extract

1 1 tbs. water

2 tsp. sugar

1 cup freshly fallen snow (keep in the freezer until ready to combine!)

Combine the first four ingredients, and add them to the snow. Stir until even, and place in the freezer for 10 minutes or until the consistency is right!
